Replacing desktop pbix file with sharepoint synced pbix

I'm trying to see if there is a way to replace a report and semantic model that's published to service via the desktop app (option 1) with a report that is uploaded from Sharepoint (option 2). Either using the Power BI api or another way.

Option 1: Publish a report from Power BI desktop into service using the Publish button

Option 2: Go to Power BI service and select the Upload > Sharepoint option

I already have a large number of reports published to service using option 1, however this option doesn't allow me to use the OneDrive/Sharepoint Sync options:

However after publishing a report using option 1, and then subsequently uploadng the same report using option 2, I end up with duplicate reports in the same workspace and no option to replace.

It's the exact same pbix file, how can I replace all the reports with option 2 while retaining the same report link?

Hi @ijjj ,

Unfortunately, there is no direct replacement for pbix at this time. If your goal is to get up-to-date data and infrequent times, consider configuring scheduled refreshes for it.

Hope it helps!

Hi @ijjj -Power BI does not natively support a straightforward "replace" operation between reports published by these two options. You can use the Power BI REST API or SharePoint or OneDrive process

more details you can find it below link:

Always take a backup of your PBIX files and reports before making large changes to avoid any data loss.

Use the API for Efficiency: If you need to replace many reports, using the Power BI REST API will help automate the process and avoid manual errors.

Hope this helps.
