Dear Power BI community,
I have connected my Power BI Desktop file with Sharepoint and an external remote MYSQL server,
Now I would like to publish it to the Power BI Service, and have scheduled refresh.
I know that for Sharepoint, the refresh could be directly from the service, which means that I do not even need the desktop to run or have a gateway running.
My question is that: can it be the same for the remote MYSQL server?
If not, since it is not a local MYSQL server, does on-premises gateway still works? Or it is only possible to refresh the desktop file and re-upload?
Thank you!
Hi @Anonymous ,
If your dataset not only contains cloud data source but also the on premise data source, then it needs to use the gateway and configure schedule refresh, see more: :On-premises data gateway , Configure scheduled refresh .
Note that you also need to select Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster option Under Gateway Cluster Settings. See: Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources.
Best Regards,
Liang

Hi, I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that mysql is a database that requires a gateway because it requires the instalation of a provider to read data. When you have onpremise and directly conected data be sure to have this option activated in gateway configuration:
You will need to set up a VM or any computer with access to the mysql server. Install a gateway and the plugin for mysql. Restart the vm restarted after the installation. Then you will be able to configure it in service to schedule refresh the dataset.
Hope this helps,
Happy to help!
