Refresh Failure Notification

Hi,

If a dataflow fails for some reason, we get a notification by email.

Is it possible to add the reason for the failure and the name of the workspace of the dataflow in the email body?

Thanks,

John

Hi @johnpjustus ,

Please have a try.

  • You can do this by setting up an alert rule in the Power BI service.

To set up an alert rule, go to the workspace where the dataflow is located, click on the "Alerts" tab, and then click on "New alert rule". From there, you can select the dataflow that you want to monitor, and then configure the alert rule to send an email notification when the dataflow fails.

In the email notification, you can include the reason for the failure and the name of the workspace by using the "Include details" option in the alert rule configuration. This will add a detailed message to the email body that includes the reason for the failure and the name of the workspace.

  • You can customize the email body by adding dynamic messages with system variables and expressions.

You can use the system variables and expressions to make your messages dynamic. For example, you can use @activity("DataFlow").error.Message to get the error message from the data flow activity. You can also use the pipeline parameter to provide the workspace name.

Thank you so much for the response and the instructions. Look like it will work if I get to see the Alerts tab.

Unfortunately, I don't see the alers tab in the workspace. The worspace is configured as Premium Per user license and my acct is entitled to create work space. Any idea as to why I am unable to see the Alerts tab?

Thanks,

John
