I've recently starting receiving an Interal Service Error on my schedueled refresh of a data model. I have things setup where I update/download every 2 hours a collection of json files and then have power bi update the model.
The error message I get via email is very vague and not very helpful.
But when I look at the error message in the Power BI mobile app, I see a little bit more with this error message, which possibly thinks maybe one of the json files downloaded may have a bad field/character? But I can't come up with any way to confirm this. I download the model, open in Desktop, and everything will refresh correctly. So can't think why the service would give an issue with the same json data?
It appears sporadic that its failing on the service, but I would not know if I bad json file someplace or not. And the datamodel is reading in daily json files for the last 5 years, although I only update/download a trailing 14 days of data.
Anyone have any suggestion on where to look/troubleshoot?

I think I found my issue, and in my instance, this is a issue with daily API call to get the json data. I found in that one of my files is downloading at 1kb file and in looking at that I see an SSL handshake error when it attempting to get the json data. It does seem sporatic though as my 11am scheduled API call downloading them all correctly.
