Refresh Error

I have a report that contains 2 data sources. 1 is a SQL Server data source and the other is csv. There is no need to refresh the csv data source, so I selected the disable refresh option. The SQL Data source must be refreshed.

The refresh section in the semantic model is disabled.

There is an error during refresh:

Scheduled refresh is disabled because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh.

How can I schedule a refresh for the model?

Hii @AllanRosner

In Power BI Service, all data sources in a semantic model must have valid credentials even if refresh is disabled for one of them. Disabling refresh for the CSV source does not remove the requirement to store its credentials. Because the CSV source has missing credentials, Power BI disables scheduled refresh for the entire model. To fix this, go to Dataset (Semantic Model) >> Settings >> Data source credentials, provide credentials for both SQL Server and the CSV source, then re-enable Scheduled Refresh. Once credentials are saved for all sources, the SQL refresh will run successfully.

In Power BI, all data sources in a semantic model must have valid credentials, even if:

  • Refresh is disabled for one of them (your CSV), or

  • That source never actually changes.

If any source has missing credentials, scheduled refresh is blocked for the entire model.

Go to Dataset Settings → Data source credentials
Click Edit credentials for SQL Server source
Set Authentication method (Database, OAuth2, etc.)
Sign in / test connection
Save
Even with CSV refresh disabled, ALL sources need credentials for scheduled refresh to work.
