I have created a new Semantic Model that is the exact same tables and field names as my old Semantic Model. The differences in the two are in the back end and how the model is created.
However, when I rebind reports to the new model I've noticed that the fields that were renamed in a visual it errors out with the usual error that it can't be found. Is there a way around this? THis seems like they should work seamlessly since the field names/table names are all the same.
For instance in the below report the field name in both tables is "Category". This user renamed it to "Ticket Type Category". So when it is rebound it errors.
Keep the source name as Category. After loading it into Power BI you can then rename it to Ticket Type Category.
So if you rename a field and then rebind the report it'll error? Even though the source in both datasets is the exact same name?
Absolutely. Power Query abhors meta data changes. Rebind first, rename later.
Is there a way to stop users from renaming fields in power bi embedded? I would still want them to be able to edit the report and add new fields. Just not rename fields.
Your ideas is so great lbendlin
Hi, @Don-Bot
It seems that Super user has answered your original question. You can mark his reply as solution. If you need to prevent users from changing field names in Power BI embedded, you can ask this question in a new thread so that others in the community can help you.
