Questions about updating a report on the service

I have a Power BI desktop report that will be getting updated data each month. So, I add the additional data file to the folder, do a refresh, and my desktop report updates.   That I get... When you publish to the service, I assume one must "republish" the file with the new data, obviously.

My question is,  If I publish with the same [now newly updated] file name as before, will the updated file replace the previous one such that all users with access to the file will now see the updated data without having to point to another file (aka. transparent to any other users I am sharing with)?

I'm not looking to automaticaly update anything.  I just want to know if the updated report overwrites the previous one.

If the report already exist with the same name it will overwrite with the data that on your desktop report when you publish. However, if you rename and then publish it will create a separate report and semantic model.  Hope that answer your question.
