Publish to web (You may not use this functionality to share content internally.....)

Hello everyone,

I have question on publish to web. We like to use this to share report and dashboard links internally with employees. But I am concerned because of below message.

You may not use this functionality to share content internally, including through email, your internal network, or intranet site.

I understand it is optional because it says may not. How do you all interpret this?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @bhavinpatel_23

My interpretation would be as it says, that Publish to Web is to be used to publically show Power BI reports.

If you want to use it internally then you should use the standard Sharing methods or Apps to share the data.

I am not 100% if sharing it internally would violate any licensing..

Power BI Blog

Thank you for the quick reply.
Anyone here experienced any issues from Microsoft or any other issues??

Basically, you need to get all of your users Power BI Pro licenses or subscribe to Power BI Premium. When I first stumbled upon PowerBI I was looking for the same solution as you. At that time this message was not on the popup when you chose the Embed Code option. However, after I demo'd this to my company Microsoft pulled a bait and switch and stated that they reserved the right to put my reports anywhere on the internet.

Hi @bhavinpatel_23,

As the official blog said, there are limitations for publish to web, if your report includes the following items?

Limitations

Publish to web is supported for the vast majority of data sources and reports in the Power BI service, however, the following are not currently supported or available with Publish to web:

1.Reports using row level security.

2.Reports using Analysis Services Tablular hosted on premises.

3.Reports shared to you directly or through an organizational content pack.

4.Reports in a group in which you are not an edit member.

5."R" Visuals are not currently supported in Publish to web reports.

Best Regards,
Angelia
