Hello community,
I'm facing a perplexing issue and I need your help.
I've configured a semantic model (dataset) based on some Excel files on SharePoint and databases via PostgreSQL (data warehouse). I don't have any issues with access credentials; I can retrieve the data through Desktop, work on my model, and publish without any problems. For your information, I'm working on a virtual machine because the servers are hosted by a company.
My problem lies in the daily data refresh or refreshing from the PowerBI service. When I activate the refresh scheduling or even when I force the data refresh directly from the model via Power BI Service, I notice that only the data coming from SharePoint (via Excel) gets updated. Regarding PostgreSQL, the values remain static.
Currently, the only way to refresh the data is to refresh directly in Desktop and then publish.
Just to recap:
Thank you for providing your support.

Hi @JPConseil ,
Sharepoints source if present in the same cloud as the Power BI Semantic Model can refresh on schedule. But this may not be the case with other sources. In your case PostgreSQL if present in same Private cloud as the semantic model, then check if you have a gateway configuration done for this. You might also have to check if the gateway is correctly configured for the Postgresql.
One more thing you can check is, if there are any other semantic models already present consuming from the same postgresql and refreshing on a regular basis from Power BI Service, do check if there is any difference in connection / authentication between your report and the other report
Regards,
Hi @Thejeswar , and thank you for your repply.
As far as I know,
Do you think I should apply a Gateway for such sources ?
Hello @JPConseil ,
make sure that there's no filter that is preventing the data from showing in the report.
check in power query and in the report.

Unfortunately, no specific filters... I also tried with a simple semantic model with one table from Postgre, same result.
I have to refresh manually in the Desktop and publish to get the data updated. The refresh on Power BI Service, seems to work, but after going to the web report, the data is still the same as it was at the previous publication.
Hello @JPConseil ,
try to reset filters from power bi service, click on this green icon.

No filters in power BI Services activated and still no updated data, despite a Desktop up to date.
Check out the July 2025 Power BI update to learn about new features.
