Powerbi dataset refresh works on Desktop but not Online

Hi everyone, thanks for reading and looking to help me to find a solution.

I have a dashboard that works properly on Desktop app version (data sources are excel files on Sharepoint, using organizational account), but once I publish and try to refresh it thru web version it gives me an error message.

(It worked before but from 1 month or so it stopped).

Error message:

  • Data source errorDataFormat.Error: < ccon >File contains corrupted data.. < /ccon >;File contains corrupted data.. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. Table: Requests.
  • Cluster URIWABI-US-EAST2-redirect.analysis.windows.net
  • Activity ID39426d74-bb3a-450b-abd4-0f8ba330e15b
  • Request ID8818aa7d-4e26-4a49-a134-12c6540e1e99
  • Time2023-08-23 13:57:15Z

Obs.:
-the table on the error message changes on every try to refresh, so there is not an issue with any table or any excel file.

-I tried to clean the cache, change sources, remove and re apply the credentials, delete everything from the workspace and republish, tried to import each file from sharepoint and also tried to import the sharepoint folder and use each sheet as reference, and many other steps looking for the solution.

I'm stuck here, please assist with your knowledge!

Hi everyone,

Just to provide updates and close this one. I was able to make it works by changing the file extention to .csv instead ov .xlsx, which was being sent to my sharepoint with some properties that was causing issues.

Thanks for your help!

Hello @Anonymous
Several ways you can try: Is your file in Excel format? If yes, you can copy and paste the data into another Excel file and try to load the new Excel file instead. Try to update Power BI into the latest version. It might fix the issue. Reinstall Power BI on another path. Restore the previous versi…

Thanks

Hi Harish,

Tested all the steps advised, still the same issue. Created whole new excel files, tried on other folders, sharepoints, using the latest version, reinstalled...

Ran out of ideas 😕

Harish, I think I found the issue, just shared with AJ on belows message.

The file is being sent thru outlook and microsoft power automate is placing the files on sharepoint. once checking the file priorities it shows this message:

Check the Unblock and try again.

Some security reasons have been applied, you will need to figur it out

In Power BI Desktop open Power Query and check out the Applied steps one by one. You should see where the problem is.

I did that several times, there is no problem on the power query.

The issue happens only when I try to refresh using the web version, locally it works perfectly, not sure what happens.

The message you have received is clear, one or more of the Excel files in Sharepoint is corrupt, means you need to go back to Sharepoint and check which one had changed. It could be one column that has changed a format because of a cell (From numeric to Txt for exemple). The steps in Power Query can identify all that too for you.

AJ, I was reviewing the files and noticed that the excel files are being saved to the sharepoint with this security block, probably that's the issue.

Do you know how can PowerBi read it anyways?
