Powerbi Dataflows not showing on Desktop

Hi,

Im having some troubles with the PowerBI service dataflows. I've been working on a dashboard for some time now which gets all its data from the dataflows. When i started working this morning the refresh suddenly didn't work anymore on desktop, while on powerbi service the data is still correctly getting refreshed. I think my powerbi desktop has some sort of disconnect with the powerbi service platform, because when I went to add another data source suddenly I couldn't access my own workspaces anymore, while when in in PowerBI service everything still works as intendended. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I solved it this morning! By turning the code PowerBI uses to connect to regular dataflows into code that connects to the legacy dataflows. Since PowerBI suddenly only recognized my dataflows as legacy dataflows, this worked.

This is the code I changed:

This is the code that used to work before my dataflows were seen as legacy dataflows:

This is the code that makes it work at the moment

Hi, @Anonymous

Thanks for Expiscornovus's reply. You can refer to his suggestion, you can try to clear the permission of the account and relogin.
Steps: Click Files –> “Options and settings” – “Data source settings”, then find “Power BI Dataflows” in “Global Permission” to clear Permission.

Or you can roll back the version of Power BI Desktop to September and try to connect again.

Hey @Expiscornovus, when I try to publish a new report, suddenly the workspaces do appear, but when I want to select a dataflow, I still cant see any workspaces. Clearing the cache also didn't resolve anything

This is what i see when trying to select a dataflow

And this is what I see when I want to publish to a workspace:

This leads me to believe PowerBI can see the workspaces, but doesn't recognise the dataflows inside the workspace as dataflows. To test this I created a simple new dataflow in another workspace.

This dataflow still doesnt load inside the navigator when trying to access the dataflows.

That is strange, also because the navigator does show 2 dataflows in total as a count in the top of the tree view.

Have you tried looking in the diagnostic/traces files? That might give you some clues.

Hey @Expiscornovus

I just discovered something else that might clear some things up, all dataflows that used to work as normal dataflows, can now only be found in the Power BI dataflows (legacy) options, could that be causing my problems? I have no idea why they are suddenly classified as legacy dataflows.

Not sure if that is the reason. I also have dataflows which are not Gen2 showing up in that Navigator. Below is an example of a dataflow which I created two years ago.

Btw, did you manage to check your diagnostics/trace log? Alternatively, I might be good to contact Microsoft support about this as well?

Hi @Anonymous,

Just to double check, are you still signed into Power BI Desktop via your account? (right top corner). Maybe it is worth signing out and back in again. Would be a simple way of check if it is a disconnect.

Out of interest, which version of Power BI Desktop are you running? Are you running the October 2024 release?

Hi @Expiscornovus,

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately signing out and back in did not work. I'm running Powerbi on the latest version.

Have you tried publishing a new simple report via the Publish option as a test? When you try that does it actually list your workspaces? Just to double check if it can find your workspaces via Power BI Desktop.

Maybe it is related to cache? Power BI also has cache settings as well.
