Hi Everyone,
I hope you're all doing well.
I have an On-Premises gateway configured to connect Power BI to Splunk using ODBC, and I've set up scheduled refresh to occur every hour. Currently, we only have two dashboards, and at most, 50 people are using them. However, we've noticed that our Splunk logs are showing an unusually high number of repeated searches, up to 10 times per second.
I've searched through the documentation, but unfortunately, I couldn't find the information I was looking for. I would like to know if there's a way to check a specific log to determine how often Power BI is attempting to retrieve data. Additionally, I'm interested in exploring ways to reduce this frequency and improve overall performance.
Thank you for your assistance
Best regards,
Bvil
Hi @bvil_28 ,
You can use the Log Analyzer tool to analyze Power BI Desktop diagnostic trace files. You can enable tracing on Power BI Desktop by going to File -> Options -> Diagnostics -> Enable Tracing. Once you have collected some diagnostics, you can open the trace folder with all the trace logs by clicking on "Open Traces folder". You can then download and open the Power BI Desktop pbit file Log Analyzer v1.0.pbit and enter the log path to point to the trace logs folder. The tool will help you visualize the logs and identify errors and performance issues such as the duration of queries.
To reduce the frequency of data retrieval and improve performance, you could try adjusting the scheduled refresh settings in Power BI. For example, you could increase the interval between refreshes or limit the amount of data being retrieved. You may also want to consider optimizing your queries to reduce the amount of data being pulled from Splunk.
