Hello everyone,
We are migrating our server to a new one and in the process the PowerBI data gateway is also going to be migrated. With the help of IT we allowed outbound firewall rules for urls and ports specified here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-communication .
Now when I got access to the new server, it already had a PowerBI data gateway enterprise mode installed on it by someone but not configured. There are many user accounts on the machine and when I (as a new user) try to open the PowerBI data gateway application on the machine, it gives me a message saying that "The gateway is not running on your computer".
Then when I press retry. I get an access denied message like shown below:
Should I uninstall the current On-premises data gateway and reinstall it again using my new account? How can I fix this?
Best Regards

Okay, that's using the default account that was created during installation, and it should have all permissions.
Can you verify that that account has administrator permissions on the system and has permissions to start and stop services?

Hi @m_mallya,
Is the gateway running under the default account, or was a service account specificed when the gateway was installed?
I've seeen this when the gateway account doesn't have admin rights to start and stop services before.

In the windows services.msc I am able to see "NT SERVICE\PBIEgwService" in the "log in as" tab. I am not actually sure who installed the gateway initially since a lot of users have access to this VM.

Thank you.
This solved my issue. My account was lacking permissions
