PowerBI app on Citrix. Error: System run out of Memory. Exception.

Hello,

I use the PowerBi app on a Citrix workspace. However, I face lots of difficulties building the report since everytime I refresh or publish my report (the size is around 7 000 kb) I receive an error message saying the system runs out of memory.

The manipulation is also very long. The app is not very reactive.

What can I do to solve the issue ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Too much complex model and queries may cause this issue. You can refer this docuement to try to optimize your model in power bi to reduce the calcualation of query.

Also, what is your Memory space? You can check the data cache management in options or It is helpful to turn on tracing and gather log files, to better isolate and identify the issue. To turn on tracing, select File > Options and settings > Options and then select Diagnostics, then check Enable tracing under Diagnostic Options.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. I should have precised before that I have already increase the size in Data load management and enabled the diagnostics.

However, I still encounter the error.

Here is the latest error I received:

Could you provide a detailed help based on these additional information please ?

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous ,

Try to follow steps below from this thread to fix it:

1) Close all instances of Power BI Desktop

2) Open file explorer and navigate to the folder <system drive>:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\CEF\cache

  • replace <system drive> with your operating system hard disk partition
  • replace <user> with your user profile name, typically the alias you login to Windows with

3) Delete all contents of this folder

4) Restart Power BI Desktop

You can also try to download the latest version of power bi desktop to try to fix

Yingjie Li

Hello, Since I am working on a citrix environment I cannot follow these steps.

I went on Explorer on Citrix but there is no PowerBi app on the Microsoft file.

Is this the problem?

Hi @Anonymous ,

When you click on "copy details" what comes up?

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Depending upon how you are trying to use Power BI and the Citrix Workspace and how you are setup will determine if this works for you or not.

Here is the citrix documentation:

https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-microapps/set-up-template-integrations/integrate-power-bi.html

You have to have a newer browser as well.  The browser information is here:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/power-bi-browsers

Here are some links to this issue that might be helpful:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Power-BI-Desktop-via-Citrix/td-p/12109

https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=4f80c04b-9cdf-40bb-8984-3120b9a73017

All of these setup issues then correlate to the memory issue.  Depending on your setup, you will have to determine which system is running out of memory and why.

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!
