PowerBI Embedded problem with Custom Visuals running on R

We have implemented three custom visuals in PowerBI.

One is using only TypeScript and the other two are using TypeScript and R.

Those three visuals are running on PowerBI Service Pro just fine without any problem.

Recently I dicovered that the two visuals which using TypeScript and R are not working into PowerBI Embedded, the visuals throw imidiatly an error in visual preview "ERROR_VISUALSEMBEDDEDTEXT" and into details threre is another error "ERROR_VISUALSINEMBEDREPORTS" which is not indicating at all the problem.

I know that recently microsoft started changing python and r runtimes into their services although it is unclear where r has been changed based on their articles. For example:

Unfortunatly I do not remember if visuals were working on PowerBI Embedded before as PowerBI Embedded is something we had not fully tested as we plan to use it in the future.

We recently found this article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/service-r-visuals where it explains that PowerBI Embedded Free users are not able to render visuals and only PowerBI with Pro or PPU or beeing in Premium capacity can render custom visuals with Python or R. Didn't expect that it is very annoying...

Hi @S19K15 ,

Thank you for sharing this article. Yes, as mentioned in the documentation, rendering R and Python visuals in Power BI Embedded requires a Pro, PPU, or Premium capacity.

If you plan to use R visuals in Power BI Embedded, you may need to ensure the workspace is in Premium capacity or that users have the required licensing (Pro or PPU). As I suggested earlier, you may also consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further guidances.

Thank you for your cooperation.Have a great day!

Hi @v-pagayam-msft, all the visuals are created into R3.4 and does not use any R4.3 feature.

Hi @S19K15 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum about the issue you are encountering.

If Power BI Embedded is still on R 3.4 but your R scripts use R 4.3 features. They might not run correctly.f you run an R script using features from R 4.3 in Power BI Desktop (with R 4.3 installed) and it works but fails in Power BI Service, then Service might still be on an older version.

If still facing difficulty in resolving the issue, please feel free to reachout.

If this post helps, please give us Kudos and consider Accept it as a solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
