PowerBI Accessibility

Hello I am the Data Specialist for the Town of Normal. I am working on upating our exisiting public-facing PowerBI dashboards to meet ADA standards and Im running into a few issues.

First, I am running into issues with what the screen reader says when the page is loaded. It says “Microsoft PowerBI – Blank” and after looking into several online resources, I have not been able to get this to change. When using the dashboard after I've published it and it's in a new tab, it takes you all around the page but not into the dashboard itself when your using Tab on the keyboard. Is there a way to change the order of this to go right into the dashboard itself? The average screen reader user is going to look for a list of links that are available on the page. When testing, the screen reader said there was none when there were several which is a problem. Is there a way to correct this issue? Another key issue was the way you interact with the different PowerBI graphs and slicers when using keyboard navigation. Having to tab to them, then enter to enter them and make any changes, then esc to leave them, is there a way to adjust these controls?

Any insight into these issues would be a huge help or any resources that can help answer some of these questions. Please feel free to email me at mboehle@normal.org

Thank you in advance!

Hi @MalloryBoehle,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum. Also, thnaks to @dk_dk@lbendlin, for those inputs on this thread.

As recommended by the Super User @lbendlin, could you please confirm whether you have raised a support ticket for this issue? If the issue has been resolved, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could share any key insights or the resolution here, so other community members can benefit from it as well.

I did put a support ticket in and am working with Microsoft on a solution. I will update when there is one.

Hi @MalloryBoehle,

Thank you for the update. It’s great to hear that you have raised a support ticket and are actively working with Microsoft on this.. Please feel free to share the resolution or any key insights once available, as this may help other community members facing a similar situation.

what the screen reader says when the page is loaded. It says “Microsoft PowerBI – Blank”

That can be considered a bug.  If you have a Pro license you can open a Pro ticket at https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/newsupportticket/powerbi
Otherwise you can raise an issue at https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues .

Thank you, I will look into this!

Hi @MalloryBoehle

Have a look here.

Unfortunately I do not know much about the accessibility features and keyboard navigation/screen reader settings but it does not look like you can customise the behavior too much on the PBI side.

Re-arrange visual tab order as desired

That's for the tab order of things which I've played around with. Im more talking about when you open the dashboard in a tab after you publish it and are trying to enter the dashboard if that makes more sense.
