Power Bi Service - Schedule Refresh

Hello,

I am trying to set a Schedule Refresh and in Semantic Model and see an error "Scheduled refresh has been disabled."

Data source error: Scheduled refresh is disabled because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh.

Even under the "Data source credentials" option, I get the error message "Failed to test the connection to your data source. Please retry your credentials."

Please suggest. Thank you!

Hi @vikramv ,

This error typically occurs when Power BI is unable to authenticate with the web data source due to incorrect or expired credentials. Here are some steps :

  • Navigate to Settings → Datasets, Find the dataset with the issue and click Data source credentials. Re-enter your credentials and ensure the authentication method is correct.
  • Verify that you are using the correct authentication method. Some web sources may require specific types of authentication (e.g., Basic, OAuth, API keys). Make sure you are using the method that the web source supports.
  • Ensure that your account has the necessary permissions to access the web source. If the web source has restricted access, you may need to contact the administrator to grant you access.
  • Open Power BI Desktop, Go to Transform Data → Data Source Settings. Select your Web source and Edit Permissions Update credentials and Apply changes, Try refreshing the dataset.

If the issue persists, let me know the type of Web data source (API, SharePoint, etc.) you're using!

Hi @vikramv ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

  • Navigate to your workspace where the dataset is located. Go to the dataset's settings page and re-enter the credentials for all data sources. check if any data sources require credentials. Make sure that the credentials are correct and have the necessary permissions.

  • select the appropriate authentication method (OAuth, Basic, Windows, etc.), and enter the credentials.  If you see "Failed to test the connection", try switching the authentication method (e.g., from OAuth to Basic, if applicable).

  • If the data source is in a gateway, confirm you have access to the data source in the gateway. If your data source requires an on-premises data gateway, ensure the gateway is installed, running, and correctly configured.
  • Go to Manage Gateways in Power BI Service and verify if your data source is properly mapped.
  • Sometimes, simply re-entering the credentials can resolve the issue. Remove the existing credentials and enter them again.

If you have tried all the above steps and are still facing issues, please share a screenshot of the error for more insigths.

Thanks for sharing the steps. I tried to provide the credentials in all the options under the authentication method, but couldn't succeed.

Hi @vikramv Try this please for troubleshooting your issue

  • Go to Dataset Settings in Power BI Service, update and validate all Data source credentials.
  • Check if the gateway is correctly configured and running (if on-premises data is used).
  • Republish the dataset from Power BI Desktop if issues persist, then re-enable Scheduled Refresh.
If this post helped please do give a kudos and accept this as a solution
    Thanks In Advance
