Power BI semantic model refresh schedule for specific tables

Hello,

I have a question in regards to Power BI refresh schedule within a semantic model and would like to know if the following is possible or not:

  • Six tables from my dataset need to be refreshed on the hour
  • The remaining tables can be refreshed daily

The only way that I know this is possible is if we have a separate dataset for each.

My question is, is there another way of doing this without creating a separate dataset?

Thank you,

Pete

Hi @PMFlorenzano

You can follow these steps:

1. Organize Dataflows by Refresh Frequency

You need to create multiple Dataflows to handle different refresh frequencies:

Hourly Dataflow: Contains the tables that need to be refreshed hourly.
Daily Dataflow: Contains the tables that can be refreshed daily.

2. Create Dataflows

a. Create Hourly Dataflow:

1. Navigate to Power BI Service: Go to your workspace.
2. Create Dataflow: Click on 'Create' > 'Dataflow'.
3. Define Queries: Use Power Query Editor to define queries for the six tables that need hourly refresh.
4. Save and Refresh: Save the Dataflow and set the scheduled refresh to 'Hourly'.

b. Create Daily Dataflow:

1. Create Dataflow: Click on 'Create' > 'Dataflow'.
2. Define Queries: Define queries for the remaining tables.
3. Save and Refresh: Save the Dataflow and set the scheduled refresh to 'Daily'.

3. Combine Dataflows in Power BI Desktop

a. Load Dataflows into Power BI Desktop:

1. Open Power BI Desktop: Go to 'Get Data' > 'Power BI Dataflows'.
2. Connect to Dataflows: Select the Dataflows you created for both hourly and daily tables.

b. Merge Dataflows:In Power BI Desktop, you can combine data from different Dataflows into a single dataset. Use the 'Transform Data' option to merge or append tables as needed.

c. Design Your Dataset:

Design your dataset by combining data from the Dataflows into a single model. Ensure that the relationships and calculations reflect your requirements.

4. Publish Dataset and Configure Refresh

a. Publish to Power BI Service:

Publish the combined dataset to Power BI Service.

b. Configure Dataset Refresh:

Configure the dataset to refresh based on the schedules set for the underlying Dataflows. Since Dataflows are refreshed according to their schedules, the dataset refresh will align with the Dataflows' schedules.

Hi @PMFlorenzano

You can use Dataflows.
