Power BI report with semantic model data not shows the visuals for users

Hi all

I have a Power BI report pulling data from a semantic model. the dashboard expected to be available for all org staff, as i grant accss the app to 'Entire Organisation'. however, once i shared the link with a few colleagues, seems they are not able to see the data and it shows fetching error. but i can see all visuals in both desktop and service version. the error they see its in screenshot below. i checked the datasource credentials and 'datasource included in this semantic model' and all has been mapped and set.

Hi @EllieY

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum. Also, thank you @Cookistador for your quick response.

The issue arises due to missing user access permissions on the semantic model (dataset) level in the workspace where the model resides.

Even though you've shared the Power BI report app with the "Entire organization" and granted access to the app, users must also have at least Read permissions on the underlying semantic model (dataset) for Live Connection reports to function correctly.

To ensure users can view visuals in a Live Connection report, either grant them 'Read' permission on the semantic model by going to the dataset in the Power BI Service, selecting Manage permissions, and adding users or groups.

Alternatively, assign them the "Viewer" role at the workspace level via the Workspace access pane, which provides them with view-only access to all content in that workspace.

Give users access to workspaces - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Use Power BI in-place semantic model sharing (preview) to share semantic models with external users ...

Thank You!

thanks a lot, believe this helped and i have sorted it out by your suggestion 🙂

thank you @v-karpurapud  for quick reply. if i give them read access to the semantic model for Live connection report, does it mean they can also see the information and charts of the original dashboard as well? cause the intention is they do not see the original dashboard charts, but they could see the second dashboard which got its data from original dashboard.

thanks alot in advance

Hi, thanks for reply. i've created a 'live connection to a semantic model' that i am the owner of that semantic model as well. people do not have access to the original dashboard ,but provide them access to the second dashboard

What is the data source?

The last time I got a similar issue, my report was using Direct query via a gateway and Kerberos was turn on

So it means if people does not have access to the database, they won't have access to the report

The other thing, it cout be, that a OLS has been implemented in the report and your users does not have the right to have access to a field used in the visual

i have checked with a colleague, thats right, the autintication message pops on and they provide their identity, but still have issue with that. any thought?
