Since the IP addresses in Power BI change dynamically, Power BI Web doesn't get to refresh nor update data whenever this IP address is changed due to the fact that it doesn't appear as a rule in Azure's Firewall.
I have found three possible solutions:
- Put IP ranges of my region in Azure's Firewall as new rules.
- Allow all services and resources in Azure to access it (not secure).
- Install Power BI gateway on a virtual machine inside Azure.
Can someone explain or detail the idea of the gateway inside a VM in Azure? Plus, what restrictions must that VM have?
Thank you!
Hey @Anonymous ,
if you want to connect an Azure SQL database to Power BI you don't have to open ip ranges.
The only thing you have to do is to allow Azure Services and resources in the firewall settings of the Azure SQL Server:
Afterwards your Power BI Service should always be able to connect to your database.
Yes, I know that is an option. But on terms of security this option means opening the server to all Azure, not only my subscription. That is why I was asking on more info about the gateway option.
