Power BI Service dashboard - button that runs a Python script?

Hi,

We have a Python script that gets data from one database, transforms the data, and loads the data into SQL Server.  We are planning to use Windows scheduled task to run it.

But, would it also be possible to add a button on a Power BI Service dashboard that runs the Python script mentioned above?

Thank you,

Hi Vinay,

I created a Power Automate Desktop flow that runs the Python script.  However, to be able to add it to the Power BI Service report, we need a premium license, that we do not have.  I have not gone further than that.

Perhaps somebody else who have a premium can confirm whether it is a solution or not.

Thanks.

Dashboards are not interactive - you cannot press buttons on them (except maybe when you pin an entire report page to a dashboard tile).

Did you mean Report?  Consider using the "Power Automate"  visual instead, or consider not doing this at all. Because - when you give users a button they will smash it, and you will end up with hundreds of these script running all in parallel and trashing your database.

Yes, report.  We are considering doing this for the just in case scenario, when the scheduled job does not work unexpectly.  Users will have a way to run it instead of waiting for the admin to look at it.

You made a very good point that what if multiple users run the script at the same time.  Will keep that in mind.

Thanks for pointing out Power Automate visual.  Will look into it to see if that's something we can use.

Best regards
