Power BI Security - OLS? Sensitivity Labels? Help!

Hey community,

I am currently working on 2 reports: an HR Dashboard and Salary Dashboard. Each of these reports will be published into 2 different workspaces.

The dataset I need for the salary dashboard is exactly the same as the HR dashboard, but with 3 additional columns: Annual Salary, Local Currency, and Conversion Rate. Therefore, ideally I'd like to use the same dataset for both dashboards for easier maintenance, but I only want the 3 columns to appear in my Salary report, and not visible in the HR report.

I have a feeling that this has to do with either Object Level Security (OLS) or Sensitivity Labels, but how would that work if I'm publishing to 2 separate workspaces? Does anyone know the best approach for me to take?

Appreciate the help.

Regards,

Nadya

Hi @NadyaTj ,

You can use page level filters incase if you have any tables in your model to differentiate the data between two tables.

I hope it will be helpful.

Hi @NadyaTj ,

Design it based on your business requirement and after deploying it to prod which team is going to support.

It would not be sensitivity labels becuase that is just a label.

If it is 2 reports, do not put the columns in the report that does not need them, and place the columns in the report that needs them.

You can use one dataset (now called semantic model) for both. Object Level Security(OLS) is an option, but this feature is not available in the desktop. You would have to use a tool like Tabular Editor to implement - Setup or Modify OLS | Tabular Editor Documentation

How woudl you use one semantic model for 2 different workspaces? Also, how do I control which columns I want to show and hide for different reports?
