Power BI REST API Dataflows - Refresh Dataflow not working

Using the 'Try it' feature in the documentation returns the same error message I am getting via logic app;

(The dataflow works fine if I run it manually)

Worked fine all last week.

The call still works for "Dataflow Gen2", but not "Dataflow Gen2 (CI/CD)"

{
"error": {
"code": "InvalidRequest",
"message": "Unexpected dataflow error: "
}
}

Dataflows - Refresh Dataflow - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Learn

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I couldn't get that to work with a Service Principal / Registered App (despite the page saying they are supported), but I did discover that one can now tirgger a Fabric Pipeline to run by a Service Principal, and do this from within a Logic App.

Hi @JonnieM

I recommend using the Scheduler API to start jobs, rather than the legacy dataflow API.

Thank you @tayloramy, fro your insights.

Thank you for sharing the workaround it’s very useful and helps clarify the current limitations with Service Principals. Since this approach works well, you might consider marking your reply as the accepted solution. This can help others facing the same issue quickly find a working approach.

Thank you.
