Power BI Model Refresh Turning Off

I have a Power BI Model with a Scheduled Refresh that I keep having to set up. Three times now this has occurred where it just does not perform or attempt a refresh after I've scheduled it.

1. Scheduled refresh is set to daily. I last manually refreshed on 1/8 which is when I also set up the schedule again. There were no attempts or failures to refresh the data since that date (I checked the refresh history).

2. The primary report built from this model was last accessed on 1/20, so clearly not a case of "not utilized".

3. The model will refresh no issue with a manual refresh. The credentials are a service account, so they do not update and can connect without issue.

After much googling and searching these forums, I'm really at a loss as to why this is occurring. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi @teetoes,

Thank you for your inquiry through the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Based on the details of your query, it appears that the issue may be related to the scheduled refresh configuration or the Power BI service itself.

Kindly follow the steps outlined below to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Delete the existing scheduled refresh and create a new one. Please ensure that the scheduled refresh settings are configured correctly.
  2. Enable email notifications for refresh failures to receive timely updates in the event of a failure.
  3. Confirm that the service account used for credentials has the required permissions for all relevant data sources and the necessary access rights to the model being refreshed.
  4. If the dataset is large or complex, consider simplifying or optimising the model to enhance performance and reduce the likelihood of refresh issues.
  5. Verify that the scheduled refresh time aligns with your local timezone, as discrepancies in timezone settings may cause issues.
  6. Publish the same PBIX file to a new workspace and configure the scheduled refresh in the new workspace. If it functions correctly in the new workspace, the issue could be related to the configuration of the original workspace.

Hi, thanks for the response. Here is what I tried:

1. I couldn't remove the old schedule, because Power BI wouldn't hold onto the schedule at all. So I'd set it up, apply it, close out and come back and it would be greyed out again with nothing set up.

2. Email notifications were enabled, but the refreshes never kicked off, so there was never a failure to notify me about and it also didn't notify me that the refresh never occurred.

3. The Service Account has the necessary credentials, as I am able to refresh manually without issue.

4. The dataset is 2G in a Premium Capacity workspace so this shouldn't be a problem, but I moved it to large capacity format.

5. Timezone was set correctly.

6. This is probably what helped me figure out the issue, but it had nothing to do with workspace configuration and everything to do with Power BI caching. I cleared my cache, reloaded, added the schedule and now it's holding. Because it held in another workspace with identical settings, I decided to try the fall-back cache-clearing trick. It worked. Also, that's really not a good look for the service here. I shouldn't have to constantly clear my cache to get settings and permissions and selections to apply and stay applied. Really poor design in my opinion.

Thanks for the assistance. This at least got me to what the cause was and now we are on track. Still no idea why it kicked the schedule out to begin with but it works now.
