Hi everybody,

are there any limitations for using directquery to access an on premise SQL Server database when using Power BI Embedded?

Hi @burcumusaoglu ,

About Direct Query limitations, The general limitations on directquery apply to all directquery models. No distinction is made between in power bi service and power bi embedded.

Limitations on Direct Query:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-use-directquery#considerations-and-li...

Gateway:

With Direct Query model, you need On-premises data gateway (Standard).

Power BI Embedded:

You need to be aware of the DirectQuery/Live connection (per second) and Max memory per query in direc query mode for some power bi embedded sku's.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/embedded-capacity?tabs=gen2#sku-memory-...

As far as I know, you can connect to one or more local services with a gateway via direct query mode.

In some documentations i read that PBI embedded supports only Azure SQL database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse. These documentations were a bit old. But since i haven't been able to find a clear new documentation, i want to be sure whether i can install a on premise gateway for accessing one or more local SQL Server dbs via directquery in a report which will be deployed on PBI Embedded.

I will appreciate a confirmation and if possible any current documentation links regarding this topic.

Thanks in advance.

No. What limitations are you expecting or concerned about?
