Hi,
I’ve created a Power BI App and added our report to it. One of the reports uses a custom page size — not the default 16:9 — because it has a large, complex layout. While the report looks fine in Power BI Service, it appears zoomed in when viewed through the Power BI App. This is likely because the app doesn’t automatically scale custom canvas sizes. I’m currently exploring whether there’s a way to make the report fit better within the app view. Microsoft’s documentation suggests resizing the report to a standard page size, but that’s not feasible for us due to the layout requirements. I’ll continue testing and see if there’s a workaround that doesn’t involve redesigning the report.
Hi @CheSan,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
It’s not anything you are doing wrong, this is actually a limitation of Power BI Apps. The App viewer doesn’t auto-scale custom canvas sizes, so large layouts like your 3500×1600 page will always look zoomed in there, even though they fit correctly in the regular Power BI Service. Only the standard page sizes get proper scaling inside Apps.
There isn’t a setting in Desktop or the App that can fix this today. The only workarounds are reducing the canvas width, redesigning to a standard size or viewing the report directly in the Service instead of through the App.
If keeping the custom layout is important, it’s worth submitting an idea to Microsoft.

You can submit something like: Power BI Apps should auto-scale reports that use custom canvas sizes, just like they do in the regular Power BI Service. Today, custom page sizes appear zoomed or cropped inside Apps because they don’t resize to fit the viewer. Enabling proper scaling would make complex, wide layouts usable without redesigning them.

Hi @CheSan
You’ve published a report with a custom canvas size to a Power BI App, and while it displays correctly in the Power BI Service, it appears zoomed in when opened through the App. This happens because Power BI Apps don’t automatically scale non-standard page sizes, so custom layouts can lose proper fit and responsiveness. Although Microsoft recommends switching to a standard page size for best viewing, that isn’t practical in your case due to the complex design. You're currently testing to see if there’s a workaround that preserves the custom layout without needing to rebuild the report, since the issue seems tied to how the App handles custom page dimensions rather than a report problem.
Do you mean a Power BI Mobile app? There is a mobile view in Power BI Desktop that lets you test drive the layout, and you can also enable responsive layout.
Hi, did you check your report Page View mode under 'View'? If it were set to 'Actual Size', you may try switching it to 'Fit to Page' before re-publishing and test again~
Hi, Thank you for your comment. Yes I checked it and it is already Fit to Page.
Canvas setting is 3500*1600 in the report I guess Power BI App supporting only standart sizes and biggest standart size is 1920 × 1080. I am not sure if there is a way to fit in Power BI App like Service
