I was using PowerBI Service years ago and then I could make a connection that would auto-refresh data from my excel files stored on my OneDrive.
It seems like the option is no longer there? When creating a new dataset (which is not called "semantic models" I guess) I cannot longer link to my OneDrive. I can just upload a one time excel file.. I don't really understand the point of PowerBI service anymore? If data doesn't refresh then what's the point?
I didn't manage to find how it works now..
However, my previous datasets from before still work and still refresh.
Sorry if the question is basic, but Google didn't bring any results as most information is about PowerBI Desktop and gateways.
Thanks
Hi. You can connect Power Bi Desktop to Onedrive or Sharepoint. Then publish and configure schedule refresh with 8 times a day as any other source. If you are looking for the automatic refresh, there is a setting for that and will only work for onedrive, if you have added other source on the data model you probably need to go with the traditional schedule refresh.
You can read about it in here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-desktop-file-onedrive#automatic-vers...
NOTE: datasets name has changed to semantic model. If you read semantic model it's what we used to call dataset.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
