Hi there, sorry if this question has been asked. I looked around and could not found it.
The environment: I have 2 databases (let's call A and B) and I'm using database mirroring. On premises gateway is pointing to A, so far so good.
The problem is when A is down. B becomes principal automatically, but the gateway cannot refresh the data since is still pointing to A.
Is there a way to make that happen? Maybe setting a custom connection string?
Hi @Anonymous ,
As far as i know, it might be possible to use parameters in Power BI Desktop.
Please check following steps as below.
1# Use Manage Parameters in Query Editor to create two parameters: Server and Database.
2# Use these parameters to connect to data and publish to Power BI Service.
3# Add both two database to Gateway in Power BI Service.
4# Modify parameters to switch databases.
I'm not sure if this approach meets your needs because it has two limitations: import mode is required and parameters needs be modified manually.
Best Regards,
Jay

Hi @Anonymous
By "modified manually", do you mean that if the server A is down, I have to manually swicth to server B? If that is the case, then it does not help, since server A could go down overnight or on the weekend, when no one is activately looking at it.
Thanks nevertheless.
Hi @Anonymous ,
I would like to suggest you to submit your idea to Microsoft if you want.
