Nulls removed from column but scheduled refresh fails on PowerBi Online

Hi

I have several sharepoint online lists connected to PowerBi. One of the lists has a choice column with blanks in it. When I expand this list column in PowerBi desktop - query, the null values throw errors. I can remove the errors without issue, refresh data in desktop, and publish the updated report... However, once the report and dataset are published in PowerBi online, the scheduled refresh fails due to the null values not being able to be converted to text. As the sharepoint list I am using has literally thousands of null values in this column, I am not sure how to tackle this issue, to enable auto/scheduled refresh. If the data can be refreshed in desktop, why does the online data refresh fail? Any workarounds as doing a manual refresh in Desktop and republishing every day, isn't ideal.

"Expression.Error: We cannot convert the value [ccon]null[/ccon] to type Text.. [/ccon]."

Thanks

Hi. The refreshes don't work in the same way for Service and Desktop. Service is way more restricted, so if it can't refresh you still have errors in the Desktop even though you can refresh it there. You might want to keep error for the columns, re order by a column or look for null values, etc. Do whatever you can to find the missing error or where you are converting to Text. If you refresh the whole Desktop without any warning, then you could refresh on Service, but the warnings can be failures at service.

I hope that helps,

Replace the nulls with a text placeholder in your Power Query.
