Not specified users in Usage Metrics report

Hi! When I analyze Usage Metrics report for my Power BI report, I don't see all viewers. When users use Teams to access the Power Bi report, in Usage Metrics Report they are not listed in the table of Unique Users. The same situation with Report which we use to track Audit log. Audit log report (which intended to show how users use their Power Bi licence) does not show us correct list of active consumers of Power Bi service, because users who use MS Teams to access to Power Bi reports are not included there.

Hi there! It sounds like you are experiencing some issues with the Usage Metrics report in Power BI.

One possible reason for this issue is that the users accessing the report through Teams are not logged into Power BI with their own individual accounts. If they are accessing the report through a shared link or a service account, their usage may not be tracked in the Usage Metrics report.

To ensure that all users are properly tracked in the Usage Metrics report, they should access the report through their own individual Power BI accounts. You can also consider using the Power BI audit log report to track usage for all users, including those accessing the report through Teams.

If this does not resolve your issue, you may need to contact Power BI support for further assistance.

When in Teams I send a link to Power Bi report and the user open the report by clicking on this link, then user is visible as a viewers in Usage Metrics report. The isuue of tracking comes when users use pinned Power BI app button in MS Teams as a way to access to Power Bi reports shared to them:

When users access Power BI reports through the pinned Power BI app button in Microsoft Teams, they may not be automatically tracked as viewers in the Usage Metrics report. This is because accessing the report through the pinned app button may not generate a click on the report link that is necessary for tracking.

To track usage for Power BI reports accessed through the pinned app button, you can use Power BI's audit logs feature. This feature allows you to track user activity within Power BI, including when users access and interact with reports. To access audit logs, you will need to have administrator or member access to your organization's Power BI workspace.

Here's how to access audit logs in Power BI:

  1. Navigate to the Power BI workspace where your report is located.
  2. Click on the ellipsis (...) next to the workspace name and select "Audit logs".
  3. In the audit logs page, you can filter by user, report, date, and other parameters to see a record of user activity within Power BI.

By using audit logs, you can get a more complete picture of how users are accessing and interacting with your Power BI reports, even if they are not being tracked through the Usage Metrics report.
