Not able to enter data source credentials

Hi, I have some excel files in a sharepoint folder. I want to connect to this folder in Power BI Service via the settings of the semantic model. I am the owner of the semantic model but I am not able to enter any credentials in the "Data source Credentials" area because this area is grayed out in the semantic model settings. I have admin rights for the worksapce where the model is located. Do I need further authorizations or do I have to set something in advance?

Thanks

thanks @ibarrau

I think that is not exactly what I was looking for. We would like to make automatic refreshes in Power Bi service of Excel files that are stored in a sharepoint. To do this, we need to re-enter the credentials for Sharepoint in the semantic model settings under "Data source credentials". A colleague of ours was able to do this. For me, however, this function cannot be selected at all. I am not able to do what is described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-data#accessing-cloud-data-sources

Let's see. We can find a work around.

When working with Datasets you get data from a sharepoint file to PBI Desktop. You connect credentials. Create the report and Publich to Service. At service you have to set the definitive credentials for the deployment. You can modify those for the File any time. However, if you want to get other file or other folder or any other source. You have to modify the PBI Desktop file again to get the data.

If you really need to work with the data at PowerBi Service because you have a mac or the person that builds the report data visualizations is not the same as the one hadling data. Then you can create Dataflows. Dataflows are a PowerBi Service tool that allows you to get data from sources. Then users that build reports can get the cleaned prepared data from dataflows instead of the sources.

I hope that make sense

Thanks @ibarrau ! I will have a look at it.

Nevertheless do you have any idea, why I am not able to set any data source credentials at Power Bi service?

Hi. Power Bi Service is not a place where you can modify data sources. That's responsability of the developers tool "Power Bi Desktop". If you want to modify the model, ask for the original file or download it. Modify the data model with the new sources and publish back again.

Those settings are only for validating the credentials of the sources configured at PowerBi Desktop for refresh.

I hope that helps,
