New report based on multiple semantic models of existing reports - Visualizations problems

Hi everyone,

I created a new report based on multiple semantic models of existing reports, all these reports have RLS.

When sharing this new report online, people are not able to see some visuals.

I tried to give Builder accesses to the old semantic models, I created identical accesses at the RLS level in the new report (I used 2 dimension tables to connect to all the semantic models, one for calendar and one for Cost Centers).

I can't understand why it doesn't work.

We are talking about 4 different semantic models, and about 50 different tables.

Thanks in advance.

Hugo

Hi @hugo_p_23

Currently there are some restrictions around using multiple semantic models in a single report or what is known as composite models. As to why at some points the Row Level security will not work and this is by design. Use composite models in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Hi @hugo_p_23  ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

If RLS produces unexpected results, check for the following issues:

  • Incorrect relationships exist between model tables, in terms of column mappings and filter directions. Keep in mind that RLS filters only propagate through active relationships.
  • The Apply security filter in both directions relationship property isn't correctly set. For more information, see Bi-directional relationship guidance.
  • Tables contain no data.
  • Incorrect values are loaded into tables.
  • The user is mapped to multiple roles.
  • The model includes aggregation tables, and RLS rules don't consistently filter aggregations and details. For more information, see Use aggregations in Power BI Desktop (RLS for aggregations).

When a specific user can't see any data, it could be because their UPN isn't stored or it's entered incorrectly. It can happen abruptly because their user account has changed as the result of a name change.
