Mysql cloud database refresh data

Hello,

I have a cloud Mysql database, everything work well on power BI desktop but when I publish on power BI service it seems that I can't refresh the data.
I have this error message:
" Scheduled refresh is disabled because at least one data source is missing credentials. To start the refresh again, go to this dataset's settings page and enter credentials for all data sources. Then reactivate scheduled refresh."

The data source credentials and scheduled refresh sections are greyed out...
I searched for few hours and didn't find any solution.

Do I have to use gateway, even with a cloud based database? If yes, why? If the database was installed locally I would understand but in this case it's quite strange...

Thanks in advance

Hi. If you want to connect to mysql you need a data gateway even if it's in cloud. The idea of having a source in cloud is not the only reason for avoiding a data gateway. It dependes on the source if Power Bi will be able to read it. Power Bi Service contains a limited connector to data sources and you can't install it more. If you think about it you have installed a connector for mysql in order to get data from the source with Power Bi Desktop. Power Bi service doesn't have that connecotr on cloud and that's why it needs a gateway to refresh data even if it's in cloud. It can't read that engine by default.

I would recommend a VM in the current cloud vendor to install the on premise data gateway.

Hope this helps,

P/D Don't forget to restart the vm after installing the mysql provider for power bi.
