I created a report in PowerBI Desktop, connecting to a 3rd party MySQL database. How can I keep a continuous connection so the data can stay up-to-date? I understand the PBI Desktop can not use DirectQuery. If I publish the report to PBI Online, can I create a live connection to MySQL or schedule refreshes?

Hi @Anonymous ,
I would like to clarify that Power BI Desktop does use DirectQuery. To get real time data in the Service, you will need to have the appropriate license and the appropriate setup. You can find more about that here:
Real-time streaming in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
Does that help you out?
