Hi I would like to confirm if there is the limit of the memory consumption of a single Power BI item for Shared capacity workspaces as well. What is it.
I also want to know the reason why set this limit for premium workspaces eg. improve performance or any other reason .
Sorry I did not find related articles.
With Premium Gen2 and Embedded Gen2, the amount of memory available on each SKU is set to the limit of the memory consumption of a single Power BI item.

Hi @Anonymous ,
As you can see in the note below:
3 The Max memory per dataset (GB) column represents an upper bound for the dataset size. However, an amount of memory must be reserved for operations such as refreshes and queries on the dataset. The maximum dataset size permitted on a capacity may be smaller than the numbers in this column.
And Shared capacity has size limits of 1 GB per dataset. So memory limit for Shared capacity is 1 GB per dataset too.
Best Regards,
Jay
Hi @Anonymous ,
Shared capacity has limits of 1 GB per dataset, 10 GB per user and eight refreshes per day.

Jay
HI @Anonymous
Could you please kindly tell if storage limit = capacity limits?
Please kindly help to check the table I listed as below, Is there any mistake?
Why no per-user storage limit for Premium capacity workspaces, but the total limit is 100 TB, should it be no limit or can’t exceed the storage limit of 100 TB. It will be appreciated if you could explain.
| License | Shared capacity workspaces Total : 10GB | Premium capacity workspacesTotal : 100TB |
| Free | ? | No per-user storage limit |
| Pro | Total usage can’t exceed the tenant storage limit of 10 GB multiplied by the number of Pro licenses in the tenant | No per-user storage limit |
| Premium Per User (PPU) | 100 TB storage limit | No per-user storage limit |
Hi @Anonymous
Thank you for your reply.
I meant the Max memory per dataset like the following, what is the limit for Shared capacity.
Please also kindly tell the benifits of Memory allocation.

Hi @Anonymous Thank you very much! That was helpful.
Could you please kindly anwer my questions about storage limit?
①Please kindly help to check the table I listed as below, Is there any mistake?
②Why no per-user storage limit for Premium capacity workspaces, but the total limit is 100 TB, should it be ”can’t exceed the storage limit of 100 TB.” It will be appreciated if you could explain.
| License | Shared capacity workspaces Total : 10GB | Premium capacity workspacesTotal : 100TB |

| Premium Per User (PPU) | 100 TB storage limit | No per-user storage limit |
Hi @Anonymous ,
1. Both the Free and Pro license have a data capacity limit of 10 GB and a dataset size limt of 1 GB.
2. Premium Per User is user-based license, while Power BI Premium is capacity-based license. Your entire PPU tenant has the same 100 TB storage limit that is applied to a Premium capacity.
Best Regards,
Jay
Hi @Anonymous
Thank you very much!
Sorry for the last confirmation, for Premium capacity, there is no per-user storage limit but total usage can’t exceed the storage limit of 100TB by all of licenses users. For shared capacity, free and pro users has 10 GB limit based on capacity, but for PPU users, all of the capacities could not exceed 100 TB, but for a single shared capacity, the limit is 10 GB as well.
Is my understanding correct?
| License | Shared capacity workspaces | Premium capacity workspaces |
| Free | 10GB/per capacity | 100TB/per capacity |
| Pro | 10GB/per capacity | 100TB/per capacity |
| Premium Per User (PPU) | 100TB/per users | 100TB/per capacity |
Hi @Anonymous ,
Correct.
Best Regards,
Jay
