Load multiple files (parameterized) via dataflow

Hi,

I am facing this issue and I would be very thankful for help.

I have a folder containing multiple .mdb files, e.g.:

  • company1_2020.mdb,
  • company1_2021.mdb,
  • company2_2019.mdb,
  • company2_2020.mdb,
  • company2_2021.mdb

Each year a new file is added for each company.

My goal is to load to PBI service via dataflow all the files which belong to each specific company. And because a new file for each company is added each year, the goal is to make this solution dynamic.

I know I could use folder as a source but more companies keep their .mdb files in this folder.

So I was thinking that parametrizing my source(s) might be a way to go?

Options which I am thinkig about:

1)  Source is a file: when I use file as a source I have to specify filename right in the dataflow source. Is there any space for parameters in dataflow source settings?

2) Source is a folder: here I would have to somehow "filter" which filenames I want to use. Is this possible / how?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @TomasD ,

Please refer to following blog to see if it helps you.

connect up to a sharepoint folder containing multiple files using a dataflow

  1. open up a Power BI Service and create a dataflow
  2. Ensure you know where your files are in
  3. Get data in Power BI Desktop
  4. Merge the files and filter on the folder
  5. Edit the Advanced Editor.

Best Regards
