Link to dashboard with custom filters

Hi. I'm very new to Power BI so please bear with me.

I have a Power BI report that I would like to share with several users. I would ideally like each user to see a different filtered report that's most relevant to them although all of the same data is available if they want to see more. Is there a way to create a different link for each user so when they click it their own filter is applied?

Thanks in advance!

That is standard functionality.  As a report developer you need to allow end users to store their filter choices.

Thanks @ibarrau! This works well but then creates a different problem. The report contains dropdown filter options for the user. By applying a pre-filter using the URL, the dropdown filter no longer includes all of the options that it should (only the filtered selection is available). Any suggestions to remedy this? Thanks.

Hi. I don't think you have much alternative for dynamic reporting at PBI Service. When users should see different things because they shouldn't be able to read all the data, you can use RLS. However, if you just want to share to them a different view but they can see everything. Filtering by URL is your best shot. Otherwise, you should help each user the first time they get in. Click the filters that would help them and those filter will persiste the next time they open the report.

You can always teach your users a little of PowerBi, you could move all your filters to the filter pane and explain how to use it. That way you won't have the inconsistent empty filter on the screen.

I hope that helps,

Hi. Sure, just remember that if you are working with Pro license, the viewers also need pro license. You can filter some columns by URL. This links will show you how to do it: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-url-filters

I hope that helps,
