Issues for publishing a big report (800GB) to the service

Since yesterday i have an issue for publising this report to a workspace (in premium capacity) , which could be published without issues in the past.

No special changes were done to the report..only some new measures added.

Any idea ?

Could this be related to the changes that have been done in the latest release ?

I use pbi desktop 2.132.1053.0 64-bit (augustus 2024)

Hi @KDenolf,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Yes, your issue with publishing the 800GB report could be related to changes introduced in the latest Power BI Desktop release (version 2.132.1053.0, August 2024).

  • To address this, Microsoft updated the Power BI Desktop installer on August 21, 2024 to resolve these issues. I suggest you to uninstall your current version and download the latest one from the official Microsoft Download Center.
  • If reinstalling doesn't resolve the problem, consider rolling back to the previous stable version that worked for your report. You can download earlier versions from the Microsoft Download Center.

No this didn't resolve it !

I updated to the latest version (Jan 25) but the issue stayed..  I do not hink it is related to a specific pbi desktop version as the problem suddenly started (not after an upgrade of pbi desktop software)

For the moment I upload the dataset via ONEDRIVE Upload and this seems to work now.

But the normal publish from within PBI desktop still not !

Hi @KDenolf,

Thank you for the update and for trying the suggested steps. Since the issue persists even after updating to the latest power bi desktop version and was not triggered by an upgrade, it could be related to some capacity limitations.

  • Ensure that your workspace's Premium capacity is not reaching its memory or resource limits. Large datasets(800GB) may encounter memory or resource constraints, leading to publishing failures. We can monitor the capacity usage in the power bi Admin portal.
  • Given that you have added new measures, it's worth reviewing if any complex DAX calculations or data model changes might be impacting performance or causing timeouts during the publishing process.
  • Since publishing via Onedrive works successfully, try publishing the report through the power bi web portal to identify if the issue is specific to power bi desktop.

If the issue persists, I request you to please provide additional details like, exact error message, screen shot of the error. This will help us to narrow down the issue and provide the best possible solution.

FYi   Further tests indicate that the reason has to be looked for at the server environment where the PBI Desktop is installed and from where we publish !
When I publish it from my pc it works fine !  I did several tests and each time on the server it blocks and from my pc it works fine to publish to the PBI service

Further investigation will be done to see what changed on the server and causes this issue.

As indicated in an earlier reply:  Further tests indicate that the reason has to be looked for at the server environment where the PBI Desktop is installed and from where we publish !

So no further feedback is requested from your side.
