Issue with Dataset Refresh in Workspace (Azure Synapse)

Hi Team,

I have built the data model, created reports, and successfully published them to the workspace. The primary only one data source for the report is Azure Synapse. Below are the steps I followed to retrieve data from Azure Synapse:

  1. Get DataAzure Synapse
  2. Entered the server name and logged in using service account credentials.

To enable dataset refresh in the workspace, I requested the Admin team to create a data gateway for Azure Synapse, for which I shared the following details:

  • Server Name: servername.sql.azuresynapse.net
  • User ID: Service Account Name
  • Password: ******

After the data gateway was created and added to the dataset, the refresh is failing, and I am encountering the following error:

Error: _https://[Server and folder details]/Dimension_Table/delta_log
Issue: The delta log is missing in the folder path.

However, when loading and refreshing the dataset in Power BI Desktop, it works fine. The issue arises only when refreshing in the Power BI workspace.

Could you please assist in troubleshooting this issue? Let me know if you need any additional details.

Hi @Anonymous
Thank you for reaching out microsoft fabric community forum.

It seems like you're encountering a common issue with dataset refresh in Power BI when using Azure Synapse as the data source. Here are a few steps and considerations that might help resolve the issue:

  • Make sure that the workspace has the necessary permissions to access the dataset. This includes verifying that the login information is accurate and up-to-date
  • Double-check the configuration of the data gateway. Make sure that the server name, user ID, and password are correctly entered and that the gateway is properly set up to connect to Azure Synapse
  • The error message indicates that the delta log is missing in the folder path. This could be due to incorrect folder paths or missing files. Verify that the folder paths are correct and that all necessary files are present
  •  If you're using basic authentication, ensure that the login information is secure and that the data sources have the necessary permissions. If possible, consider using OAuth2 for better security and reliability
  • Sometimes, issues can arise due to the configuration of the workspace itself. Make sure that the workspace is set up correctly and that there are no conflicting settings that might be causing the refresh to fail
  • check  both Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service are up-to-date. Sometimes, updates can resolve underlying issues that might be causing the refresh to fail.
