Is Azure Maps Included in Power BI Embedded Capacity?

So some of our Power BI report developers asked us to enable the Azure Maps visual on our Tennant for use in reports served by our Power BI Embedded capacity.  It seems that Microsoft now supports that so there aren't any technical issues.

However, despite digging into documentation for Azure Maps, Power BI, Azure Maps visual for Power BI, the Pricing Pages of both, and blog posts, I have not been able to determine if there is an additional charge for using it with Power BI Embedded.  There's a tiny little notice on the Understanding Azure Maps Transactions page saying that "There is no charge to use Azure Maps Power BI visual as long as you have a Power BI subscription".  But it is unclear to me if Power BI Embedded qualifies as such (as it's not a subscription, but a pay-as-you-go capacity), or if this only applies to users assigned Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium subscriptions.

It's also unclear to me if this applies in a testing environment where no explicit capacity has been assigned, the visual is embedded into an internal 'test' webpage, and users are not authenticated with Microsoft.  Making existence of a user-level Power BI license unknown by the service.

I know most people here aren't Microsoft reps, but if anyone has experience with the Power BI Embeded + Azure Maps scenario I'd appreciate hearing if using it changed how much you were charged.

Hi @WilliamMarshall - Azure Maps usage in Power BI is generally free under Pro, PPU, and Premium licensing.

For Embedded capacity, it is likely included in the capacity pricing, but documentation is unclear.

Anonymous/testing environments are not explicitly addressed in Microsoft’s documentation, but it's unlikely they would incur Azure Maps charges in a non-production state.

If your Embedded environment interacts with Azure Maps, monitor the Azure Maps metrics in the Azure Portal to check if any transactions are being logged or billed.

Navigate to Azure Cost Management and filter by Azure Maps usage to confirm if any charges are being incurred.
