Incremental Refresh Detect Data Changes. How does it know which the the same record

Ive been asked for more information on Incremental refresh

Say you store 24 months of  data and you set Detect Data Changes to On. Only refresh data is your LastUpdatedDate has been changed.

How does Power BI Understand the row to be the same row?  Basically they want more information on how Power BI understands that the row in Power BI and the new row are the same. I couldnt reaadily find any information on this.

Hi @DebbieE ,

The first refresh operation loads historical data. Subsequent refreshes are incremental. You may refer to the document : Incremental refresh in Power BI Premium.

Best Regards,

Amy

This is the document I read when researching Incremental Refresh but it doesnt seem to answer my question

DetectDataChanges.JPG

I understand that If the source Update Date changes then the record is flagged as changed and we can updated it.

It doesnt however show what in the data sets it as the same record. I cant find any information on this part  of the process?

Please could anyone help me on this?
