How to publish only a filtered dataset/report to PowerBI service?

I have a report with several hundred thousand rows from a database connection.  However I want to publish only a subset of rows based on specific filter criteria.   Is there a way to set the filter in Power BI desktop and publish only the filtered data set to Power BI service?

p.s: I tried to publish with report/visual filters and the entire data set is getting published to PBI Service.

Hi @shankar_bic,

In this scenario, you can filter on your columns in Query Editor to specify a set of rows which you want to be finally brought into the Power BI Desktop data model(filtered dataset). Smiley Happy

  1. Select the column you want to filter on.

  2. Click the down arrow ( Down arrow ).

  3. Apply a filter.
