How to delete fabric items with an SQL Analytics endpoint in a non-PowerBI Premium environment

I try to delete fabric items, but when i do, i get the error message:

"The SQL Analytics-endpoint cannot be opened because this is made in Power BI Premium. Upgrade to PowerBI Premium to open the SQL Analytics-endpoint" (please note i translated this to English to have a readable error message, so it may not 100% be the same)

The issue is, when i try to upgrade to Power BI Premium, the following error occurs:

"My workspace-workspace cannot be assigned because it has Fabric-items or you want to move to another region. This is currently not supported. Delete the fabric-items or move the workspace to the same region and try again".

Everything is managed in the same region, so this error keeps me coming back to trying to delete the fabric-items.

Is there a way to fix this ?

I have the same problem, but I get stuck in a loop:

I've created a Lakehouse in My Workspace. A Lakehouse (with a Semantic model and SQL analytics endpoint) was created. Now I want to delete this Lakehouse. The Lakehouse disappeared, but the Semantic model and SQL analytics endpoint are still there. When I want to delete those, I've got the error message: Unable to open the SQL analytics endpoint because it was created in Power BI Premium. To open the SQL analytics endpoint, upgrade to Power BI Premium.

When I want to change the License type in My Workspace Settings (from Pro to Premium) I get the same error as Jeffrey9: My workspace workspace cannot be reassigned because it includes Fabric items or you're attempting to move them across regions. This is not supported currently. Remove the Fabric items, or move the workspace within the same region, and then try again.

So I have to delete the Fabric items in order to change to Premium, but I can’t delete the Fabric items because I'm not in Premium capacity…

Any way to fix this loop?

Hi,@Sander95
I understand your concern, in fact, when I tried to remove the datalake during my test last week, service removed the datalake, but the SQL EndPoint that was automatically created by the system was not immediately removed, but when I now revisit the worksapce that I was testing at the time, I see that the contents have all but disappeared, lol! I think it may be a network latency issue, may I ask you now those elements that should have been deleted have disappeared?

There is nothing in the test workspace Which I created last week.

Thanks for answering my question!
Deleted it a couple of weeks ago, but both the SQL Endpoint and Semantic Model are still there.
The 'Delete' option has now dissapeared, because of the error message I guess.

Hi,@Jeffrey9 .I am glad to help you.

According to your description, you are experiencing the problem of not being able to change the workspace type, when you change the fabric type of workspace to another type (Premium) you are prompted that you need to remove the fabric element from the workspace.  I successfully reproduced your problem

First the solution:

You need to recheck the items in this workspace, which can only be created in Fabric license mode, such as your current item: SQL Analytics endpoint (LakeHouse), you need to move them to another workspace with the same license level or delete them all (please save the important items before you do this).

You need to move them to another workspace with the same license level or delete them all (please save the important contents before you execute them) and then you can successfully convert Fabric license (Trial) to other license types.

Unfortunately, at the moment, due to security restrictions, you can't simply transfer data from Fabric to another workspace.

You need another way to transfer data/files between two different workspaces.

Here is a link to a solution I found that you can refer to:

url: Solved: How Copy files/tables from lakehouse to another la... - Microsoft Fabric Community
Here's the document in question, which I hope will help you.
Migrating from Azure Synapse Spark to Fabric - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Here's what I did to reproduce your problem, and I was able to change the license after clearing all Fabric Items in the workspace (so if you want to change the license of the workspace, you have to make the items in the workspace meet the license restrictions).

In fact, it is not recommended to change the license type of a workspace directly (unless the workspace is changed to a higher level license, so that there is no content level restriction).

After deleting the lakehouse in the fabric license level's workspace, I successfully changed the level of the workspace to Premium-Per-User (I couldn't change it to Premium capacity due to environmental issues)

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Thank you for your reply.

I understand I have to delete the items in order to change the workspace type. Though my goal is not to change the workspace type, but to delete the fabric items.

And only trying to delete the items doesn't work and gives the error message I gave in the first post. Which asks to change the workspace type. But that doesn't work either because of the fabric items in the workspace

Hi @Jeffrey9 ,

What is the workspace type you are seeing?.Is it showing assigned to fabric trail capacity in workspace settings?

Thanks,

Sai Teja
