How can PowerBI Dashboard visual tiles retain report filters when clicked?

I have a few independent reports each with their own filtering capability for the end user. The intentionis that once they are done filtering the data they would be able to add key visual tiles to their dashboard and monitor updates over time. At any given point, if they want to go back to the detail they can click on the tile in the dashboard opening the specific report. However, when the tile is clicked the user is taken to the appropriate reports but the filters that were applied on the tile are not re-applied to the report. Therefore, the user does not see the same data on the report as what is shown on the Dashboard tile. Instead, they are presented with the data from the last filtering scheme that was applied to such report which might not match the original dahsboard tile.  Is there a way around this?

The idea would be that when a user clicks on a specific dashboard tile the report would open with the same filters applied as the ones which originally generated such tile to the dashboard.

Create the bookmark based on the filter in the service

Make the bookmark as your default view

Pin a visual from the Bookmarked page into a new Dashboard

Click on the pinned tile, it will get you back to the bookmarked report.

Please do the test and you will find out

Hi @OriolCanellas

Dahsboards/Tiles in Power BI are not meant to be filtered. Filtering capabilities are used in reports.

Hello @aj1973

I do agree Dahsboards cannot be filtered. However, I believe what I am trying to do is a little bit different. Let me try to give an example.

Let's say I have a report which is displaying total sales (among other things) for a business based on the filtered location. One of the users would like to create a dashboard for theirspecific location, and therefore filtered the report accordingly and added the total sales tile to a new dashboard. I would like the dashboard functionality to make it so that when the user clicks on the total sales tile the report that is opened will be filtered by that same location that was originally selected. It seems that instead of showing this behaviour, when a tile is selected on the Dashboard the correct report will open but will only reflect whatever the last aplied filter to that report was.

What this means is that if after creating his Dahsboard the user goes back into the report and selects a second location when the tile is clicked the report will open reflecting the second location.

I see,

The user can first create a bookmark on his report, from the bookmark he can pin his visual.

Can Dashboard tiles be linked to a report bookmark? Or would the user have to click the tile and then select the specific bookmark they would like to look at?

Create the bookmark based on the filter in the service

Make the bookmark as your default view

Pin a visual from the Bookmarked page into a new Dashboard

Click on the pinned tile, it will get you back to the bookmarked report.

Please do the test and you will find out
