How can I refresh the data on power bi service through custom connector?

Hi all,

I have built a custom connector and it works well on power bi desk top.

But it cannot refresh the data (semantic model) on power bi service.

The error message is:

Data source errorUnable to refresh the model  because it references an unsupported data source.

Is there any solution to make our teams use this custom connector in power bi service? Is there a way that I don't need to build on-premises gateway?

Actually our problem is that we need to consume custom data source(From a self hosted data platform) in PowerBI and allow users to make real time dashboards with it. What are some recommended ways to do it?

This might not be related to your custom connection as much as it is about your data source.  This article has a number of reasons why it might fail (particularly the "infrastructure dependencies" bit and in some of the "notes").
