How can I embed a Confluence page into a Power BI report as a readme section?

We use Confluence as our internal Wiki and maintain project documentation there. I'd like to embed specific Confluence pages into Power BI reports (e.g., as a "Read Me" page), so we only need to update the content in one place and have it automatically reflect in the Power BI report.

Is there a way to embed a live or up-to-date view of a Confluence page inside a Power BI report, either as an iframe, web content, or another method? Currently, when just putting the URL in there as a link the connection gets blocked.

Any workarounds or best practices for this scenario would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi @Dave149 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community.

Currently, Power BI does not support embedding live web content such as Confluence pages directly within reports using iframes or web content visuals. This limitation is due to the platform’s built-in security policies, including Content Security Policy (CSP) and sandboxing rules, which are designed to prevent cross-site scripting and unauthorized content access. As a result, when attempting to embed a Confluence URL, the connection typically gets blocked, which aligns with the intended behavior of the Power BI Service.

As a workaround, while direct embedding isn't possible, you can consider adding a hyperlink to the Confluence page within a text box on your Power BI report. This allows users to open the documentation in a new browser tab, ensuring access to the most current version. Alternatively, if you only need a static snapshot, you might export the Confluence page to a PDF or image format and insert it into your report as a visual element though note this won’t reflect live updates.

For more advanced use cases, if your organization supports Power BI Embedded or custom visuals development, it may be possible to surface Confluence content via APIs, though this would require custom development and proper handling of authentication and access control.

Hope this helps. Please reach out for further assistance.
