How OAuth works on PowerBI Services

Hello Experts,

Needed information/Knowledge on how Oauth works on PowerBI service as there are multiple discussion around same!

While Configuring any data source on PowerBI services, it gives option of "Oauth" authentication!

After selecting same it asks for edit credentials!

And next step it provides option to Pick account, now question is whichever account is picked here will that credentialas be used when this particular connection used by any other user?

We need to use ServiceUser with no password expiration while creating datasource on PowerBI service so different users can use this connection for their report refreshes? so if while picking up account if we provide ServiceUser credentials then during each report refresh which credentials are used? The service user one or the user who configured the connections!

Any information/document/link will be helpfull

Been to below link and it sounds like the user who configured the connection his/her credentials are used during report refresh but its not very much clear!@

Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous

When you choose OAuth authentication , you need edit credentials and sign in with account . When any other user uses this specific connection, no matter which account is selected here, as long as the data source is used, the credentials to configure the data source will be used .

If the password of the account used to configure the data source credentials is changed, the datasource credentials need to be updated. If the password of another account is changed, it has no effect on the datasource credentials, and not need to update the credentials.
