I am getting the above error message (first screenshot) while accessing the dataset in Power BI online (service), and power bi desktop (second screenshot). we have recently update the service account credentials on both TEST and PROD datasets, PROD dataset is working fine and we have this issue only with TEST dataset.

Please help with solutuion if you have encountered this.

Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous

The error messages you are referring to indicate there is an issue with accessing the dataset in Power BI. Since you've mentioned that the credentials for the service account have recently been updated, the issue is likely related to authentication or permissions. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Verify Credentials:

    • Ensure that the credentials for the TEST dataset service account are entered correctly.
    • If the credentials have changed, you need to update them wherever the TEST dataset is accessed.

  2. Permissions Check:

    • Make sure that the service account has the necessary permissions to access the TEST dataset.
    • Check if the service account is still active and has not been disabled or locked out due to security policies.

  3. Gateway Configuration:

      • If your dataset requires a gateway for connectivity (like SQL Server or other on-premises data), ensure that the gateway is online and properly configured.
      • Verify that the updated credentials are also reflected in the gateway configuration.vjialongymsft_1-1706233110712.png
  4. Refresh Dataset:

    • Try to manually refresh the dataset in the Power BI service and monitor if the same error persists.
    • Look for additional error details in the refresh history in the Power BI service.
  5. Power BI Desktop:

    • In Power BI Desktop, try to edit the queries or data source settings to re-enter the service account credentials.
    • Once the credentials are updated, publish the report again to the Power BI service.
