Downloaded the gateway perfromance template file to our VM which houses the gateway and logs and set the file path to connect. The connection refresh runs for an inordinate amount of time and eventually the entire gateway failed causing multiple dashboard failures across the organisation (thankfully just in our Test environment) which required a full hard restart of the VM it was installed on to remedy and retstart. Up until that time the gateway had run without issue for 2.5 years continuoulsly.
This is a huge issue and renders this potentially useful feature totally unusable as the risk to service is just too severe.
It sounds like the Power BI Gateway Performance template may have caused your gateway to crash and resulted in multiple dashboard failures.
This could be caused by a number of factors, such as compatibility issues between the template and your version of the gateway, or a configuration issue with the gateway that was triggered by the template.
To troubleshoot this issue, you may want to try the following steps:
Check that the version of the Gateway Performance template you are using is compatible with your version of the gateway.
Check the configuration settings of your gateway to ensure that it is set up correctly and has enough resources (such as memory and CPU) to run the template.
Try running the template on a different gateway or in a test environment to see if the issue persists.
Contact the Power BI support team for additional assistance if the issue continues.
In the meantime, you may want to avoid using the Gateway Performance template until you have resolved the issue and have a better understanding of how it interacts with your gateway environment.
