Gateway - MS SQL Server ( On-Premises )
Im using MS SQL Server as Data Base, which is on-premises server.
I had build a report in Power BI using this Data base.
To refresh this data set in PBI Service, Is it possible to connect this data base using PBI's inbuilt cloud gateway connection OR do i need to install On-Premises gateway in the local machine were MS SQL Server hosted ??

Hi! @PremK
The best practice is to have your GW on a virtual machine so it keeps on running, having it on your machine means, it stops working once you log off and this will lead to failure in data refreshes.
If my response has successfully addressed your question or concern, I kindly request that you mark this post as resolved. Additionally, if you found my assistance helpful, a thumbs-up would be greatly appreciated.

No, pls don't do it this way!
Use one stand-alone VM, only for your GW client.
This VM (with your GW) should then has FW-rule to be able to connect to your SQL Server.
Pls don't use GW on the same VM where SQL Server is stored.

Can you pls give some more details about this.
what is FW-rule and what do you mention as standalone Virtual Machine, and even if i setup this separate VM, how it could connect with SQL Server and PBI.
Can you explain these pls.

are you the very first one in your company leveraging power bi report based on on-premises source? I'd ask internally if there's already a gateway installed and configured you can use.
in that case you only need to add the data source to that gateway... or maybe it already exists and it must shared with you.

Hi! @PremK
Once you have a separate VM you have to open the ports and make sure IP of both VMs can interact with one another, for detailed setup you might have to go through the documentation.
